Toilets and Showers

Our toilet and shower facilities here at Wowo are more than adequate for your needs.

There are two toilet blocks with hot and cold showers; one brick block and one portaloo block within a short walking distance from the camping fields. Both of which have seperate men and women rooms, each having 4 showers and 4 toilets.

These are clean but basic facilities. We clean three times a day on weekends and twice daily throughout the week.
(There are no shaving/ hairdrying plugs in the toilets)

There are two Thunderbox eco compost toilets closer to the further camping spots. One is just over the bridge crossing into Lower moat and the other is in the top left corner of Lower Moat. These loo's are incredibly environmentally friendly for many reasons;

1. They are made from sustainable woodlands in Devon that are from
managed forests being converted back to Native trees.

2. By definition the Thunderboxes produce compost not waste. The deposits that get dropped off are then sprinkled with sawdust and then this mix plus oxygen will compost down within months. Inside the tank at the back where the poo goes the temperature gets pretty hot as the bacteria starts to work. Just like a fire they need oxygen and fuel in the right condition. The “fuel” in this case is our “deposits” plus “soak”, usually sawdust or straw. This produces a mix of carbon to nitrogen around 30:1. The oxygen loving or Aerobic bacteria will attack this with fervour given good oxygen supply. A cubic metre of fresh compost will reduce by one third in a month and reduce to one third its original bulk in three months.
