Course descriptions:

Introduction to Knife Craft
A must, especially for young people and adults who have never been taught how to use a knife properly and safely!  Knife craft is a skill that was once part of every person’s life but is now rarely taught. Here is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the joys of basic knife use and to make handy objects for use around the camp. Taught by a trained professional, the class is delivered in a safe and friendly environment. In addition to introducing a wide range of knife handling and cutting techniques, the session will also explain what makes a good knife and provide a brief overview of what the law says about knives too.  The session and some of its carving projects are ideal for family and friendship groups as well and make for an excellent bonding experience!
Places are limited so please book early.

Firecraft in snow
Bushcraft Adventure
A fantastic introduction to bushcraft!
Learn about fire, shelter, water, wild foods, tracking and getting close to animals and how not to get lost in the wild. Packed with games and activities throughout, this mini-adventure will also take you on a wilderness trek and introduce you to the wonders of the natural resources and environment around you. It is a great introduction to bushcraft and the countryside and a brilliant opportunity for families and friends to do something together. Kids of all ages from 5 to 95 love it!
An experience you are sure to remember for a very long time!

Night Bushcraft
As the sun descends and night time envelops the woods, a whole new spirit of adventure awaits you. Begin in the safety and warmth of our woodland camp sipping hot drinks around the campfire then venture out into the darkness to enjoy a range of games and activities that will excite your senses and fill you with the adrenaline of adventure. Depending on weather and conditions, you may learn how to move unnoticed and find your way in the darkness, how to navigate by the stars and how to rescue someone in the dark. Live the night time adventure!

Camp Craft
A fun-filled session and a great opportunity to learn how to make shelters that will keep you safe and comfortable in the woods too. Participants will experiment with natural and manmade materials to make the best camps they can.
Learn the answers to key questions such as; do I even need a shelter? Where do I put it? What can I make it from? What design should I use? What if I’m just too tired? What if I have no string? And how should I do so safely? For those who want to know or who are interested in wild camping, learn how to put up a hammock and tarp and learn some really excellent knots too.
Whether you are a child or a grown up, this session is one that will leave you with skills you can use forever.  And it’s a great one to share with your child!

Survival Adventure

Primitive Weapons, Hunters and Gatherers Experience
Travel back to the Stone Age and divide into your tribes!
Throughout this educational, fun and safe event, children will be introduced to the ways in which our ancestors used to hunt and gather food for themselves. They will use and evaluate a range of primitive weapons (e.g throwing sticks, spears, spear throwers or bows) that have been simply crafted from the natural resources of the woods around them. They will use these  to shoot at targets such as tree stumps and bails of hay. They will gather wild edibles too  and learn exactly what’s needed food-wise to survive.
The importance of a balanced diet (protein, carbohydrates and vitamins) and balanced energy use in the wilds will be introduced together with issues of safety, respect for wildlife and sustainability. As members of a tribe, children will enjoy exciting competitions throughout as well as the excitement of team membership throughout.
An adult version of this session can also be arranged upon request.
