Milly Hawkins & Team - Wild in the Woods

Milly head shot

Since 2008 I have been working as a qualified Forest Schools Leader both free lance and with Sussex Wildlife Trust. As a passionate believer that kids (and adults!) need quality time in nature, it's my aim to lead participants deeper into their own connection with nature in practical, creative and fun ways.  In my work I mix bushcraft, natural crafts, storytelling, foraging, nature awareness, historical perspectives, and imaginative games to encourage participants to explore their relationship to, and above all enjoy the natural world.  As a Forest Schools leader, I have worked with school children of all ages providing curriculum linked sessions, home educated children, children with special needs, nursery groups and families.  I have also ran several wild food workshops for adults sharing my love of foraging and proving that one of the best ways for us all to connect more with nature is through our stomachs!

I hold a Health Science degree, Forest School Leader level 3, NVQ in Environmental Conservation, an enhanced CRB check, a First Aid certificate, and an outdoor food hygiene certificate.  I gained valuable experience in many bushcraft activities volunteering with East Sussex Archaeology and Museums Partnership (ESAMP) 2008-2010, and since 2009 I have learned much by sharing regular wild food forays with Professor Gordon Hillman, deepening my knowledge of wild foods.  Previous to working as a forest schools leader, I worked with Greenpeace Australia where I developed a love of communicating all things ‘environmental’, and co-founded a small re-forestation charity.  I am also happy to be asked about private group bookings and birthday parties.

Alice Bettany will be joining Milly on several days in 2017:

Alice is a local herbalist who’s main passion is to empower and inspire kids and families to help themselves stay healthy through the abundance of nature's medicine around us. Alice has been co-running a monthly mentoring toddler group with other leaders for a few years now and has gleamed alot of experience working outdoors with kids.  She completed a year long Bushcraft course called Trackways to deepen her own Nature connection and survival skills.  Alice also helps raise awareness around sustainable growing and wild crafting of herbs, endangered or at risk species and seed sovereignty. Alice host's wild medicine walks and practical herbal medicine making workshops for all ages in the East Sussex area. She also offers seasonal days of foraging, practical medicine making, basic botany and biology workshops for Home Education groups. Alice is available for private herbal consultation or to be hired for herbal garden design jobs.  For information about Community herb gardening open days, Community supported herbalism and more see her website: http://www.sacredseeds.org
