Milly Hawkins & Team - Wild in the Woods

Milly head shot

Since 2008 I have been working as a qualified Forest Schools Leader and environmental educator, initially with Sussex Wildlife Trust, and more recently with the RSPB and freelance.  As a passionate believer that kids (and adults!) need quality time in nature, I try to lead participants deeper into their own connection with nature in practical, creative and fun ways.  I mix bushcraft, natural and historical crafts, foraging, nature awareness, imaginative games and storytelling to encourage those I work with to explore their relationship to, and above all enjoy the natural world.  I have worked with children of all ages and needs, as well as with adults running numerous pre-history and foraging workshops, and proving that one of the best ways to connect more with nature is through our stomachs!

In the past I’ve gained valuable experience in many bushcraft activities with East Sussex Archaeology and Museums Partnership (ESAMP), and have built on my knowledge of foraging from working with Professor Gordon Hillman.  Prior to that I worked with Greenpeace Australia developing a love of communicating all things environmental.

The drive behind my work is my love of the natural world but I also hold various qualifications to back this up including a Health Science degree, Forest School Leader qualification, Environmental Conservation NVQ, First Aid Certificate, an Outdoor Food Hygiene certificate, and I have an enhanced DBS check.

Please contact Wowo if you’d like to ask about private group bookings and birthday parties.

Natural Creations

Creative craft session. Using nature’s wonderful materials, and oodles of your imagination, come and make some wonderful woodland works-of-art to remind you of your Wowo stay.  Dazzling decorations, cool creatures, lush leaf-prints are just some of the possibilities. Just bring your imagination, we’ll supply the rest.

Wonderful Wood

Wood is such a wonderful material to work with! In this focused green woodwork session, we will first show you what our range of hand tools can do, then we will help you decide how to use them to make creations of your own.  Perhaps you’ll chose to make a creature, a boat or an intergalactic space station (!); the choice is yours.

A focused green woodworking session for children (and adults) 8 years+ (or 6 -7yrs with an adult supporting child)

£12 p/p. 2hrs. Maximum 20 participants

Beautiful Bugs

Open your eyes to the magnificent world of mini beasts!  Together we will go hunting for some of these seriously marvellous creatures that live here at Wowo, and find out some of their amazing superpowers that help them survive.  We will take time to make our own creatures from natural materials to take home, and play a bug-themed game or two to finish.

£12 p/p.  2hrs. Age 5+ or younger if accompanied by an adult. Maximum 25 participants

Wizards in the Woods!

Calling all magical folk!  Come join us to master the magic of making fire without matches, craft your own wonderful wand from natural materials, and mix magical nature potions.  We’ll also conjure up some supernatural games to play in the woods in this fun filled session, so bring your imagination, park your broomstick, and join us in Wowo’s enchanted woods!

£12 p/p.  2hrs. Suitable for 5 years+,  under 5 must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum 25 participants

Pewter Casting and Woodland Metalwork
