About Really Wild Bushcraft

Really Wild Bushcraft was founded by Steven Shove in January 2010 to deliver outdoor learning experiences to families and organisations alike. Since then, hundreds of families have either attended together or signed up their children on our Really Wild Bushcraft courses at WOWO. Steve and his team are qualified bushcraft and survival instructors. Each is a qualified expedition leader, CRB checked and trained in remote first aid and food hygiene as well. Instruction is safe, fun and delivered in an exciting and engaging way so whatever your age, you’ll get a great deal from our courses. Nature and adventure are the team’s passions. We hope you’ll live your own adventure and join our scheduled sessions at WOWO.  Please also visit www.reallywildbushcraft.com or call 07771 520515 for private individual, group or corporate bookings.

Workshop Descriptions

Really Wild Bow Skills (New for 2017)

Using a bow is one of our most ancient skills. In this course, you will learn how to use a bow safely and accurately, aiming at targets and competing with your friends for the hightest score. You may get to use a variety of bows from woodland made wilderness bows to the most modern ones too. Depending on numbers and age ranges, we may offer two different courses at once- one for the little ones and one for the ones who are older. Ideal for all the family.

Survive the Wild - New for 2016

Especially good fun for groups of friends and families of all ages who'd like to find out how well they'd do if they ever had to survive in the wild! It's an adventure with a twist! With the help of your Really Wild Instructor: your wits will be challenged to deal with any one of a number of exciting wilderness survival scenarios. You'll learn a great deal about how to thrive in harmony with nature and to work as a team and have loads of fun in the process too. You will really get to know your survival priorities. By the end of the afternoon, you will have built a usable shelter, learned how to source and purify your own water and how to get rescued by building a signal fire and using other means to call in a helicopter or search and rescue team.

Below 5yrs must be accompanied by a paying adult.  3hrs.  £18

Primitive Weapons, Hunters and Gatherers Experience

Travel back to the Stone Age and divide into your tribes! Throughout this educational, fun and safe event, children will be introduced to the ways in which our ancestors used to hunt and gather food for themselves. They will use and evaluate a range of primitive weapons (e.g. throwing sticks, spears, spear throwers or bows) that have been simply crafted from the natural resources of the woods around them. They will use these to shoot at targets such as tree stumps and bales of hay. They will gather wild edibles too and learn exactly what’s needed food-wise to survive. The importance of a balanced diet (protein, carbohydrates and vitamins) and balanced energy use in the wilds will be introduced together with issues of safety, respect for wildlife and sustainability. As members of a tribe, children will enjoy exciting games and friendly competitions throughout.

Below 5yrs must be accompanied by a paying adult.  2hrs.  £12

Participants will experiment with natural and sometimes man-made materials to make the best camps they can. Learn the answers to key questions such as; do I even need a shelter? Where do I put it? What can I make it from? What design should I use? What if I’m just too tired? What if I have no string? And how should I do so safely? Whether you are a child or a grown up, this session is one that will leave you with skills you can use forever.  And it’s a great one to share with your child!

You will learn about their lives (what they eat, how they behave and where they hang out), how to find them, how to track them and then how to get close to them too. You will learn how to stalk and creep up on them undetected and how to use your eyes in a special way just like the North American Indians. This session is great for those who want to be able to get closer to the animals around them . It is also designed for those who want lots of fun too as it is packed with a range of fun and entertaining games as well.

Wild fire

In this action packed course, you'll learn all about making fire in the wild using a range of natural and survival based methods of ignition....maybe even learning how to make fire in the wet, using wet wood and wet tools too! Throughout this adventure you'll learn about natural and man-made tinder, when and how to gather the right fuels to build your fire and how to prepare it to maximise your chances of success. You will also learn about fire safety and the many uses for fire and how to construct and maintain the perfect camp fire as well. The course is suitable for most ages with content adapted for each audience but we do ask that if younger ones come along, that a paying parent comes with them to help their child and keep them safe.
